Williams Seminar

This is a seminar for players who are lovers of music and of the trombone. It is for people who are looking to be challenged and who are looking for some new ideas to elevate their playing and musicianship. College players and young professionals will value this experience.


What to Expect:

  • Will perform in a recital and receive a high-quality professional video of the performance.

  • Will play excerpts with members of the New York Philharmonic low brass section, including Alan Baer, Colin Williams, and George Curran.

  • Will learn about playing injuries, recovery, and prevention.

  • Will participate in a mock orchestral audition and receive feedback and learn audition strategies.

  • Will have fun with a group of highly motivated and curious musicians!


Seminar Schedule

Jan 4

  • Morning/Afternoon Check in. Early arrivals can rehearse w/Martha

  • 4pm Colin recital

  • 6pm dinner w/ everyone and logistics

  • 7pm free time

Jan 5

  • 10-12 Masterclass on Solo Rep

  • 12-1 Lunch Together

  • 1:30-3 Masterclass on Solo Rep

  • 3-4 Break

  • 4-6 TBD

Jan 6

  • 10-12 Audition Class: preparation, mental strategies, common missteps

  • 1-3 Mock Auditions

  • 3-5 Rehearsals w/ Martha for students, coached by Colin.——Practice time

  • 6PM NYP Section play along

Jan 7

  • 10-11:30 Brass health, injuries and recovery class

  • 1:30-4pm Student recitals (recorded by Bove Audio, one camera and onstage stereo mics)

  • Wrap up and go home
